Does study debt count for a mortgages in Spain?
To what extent do Spanish banks take this into account?
Yes, a student debt will be taken into account for your mortgage application in Spain, just like in the Netherlands.
The Spanish bank sees this as fixed expenses that you cannot spend on a property in Spain. The bank takes the following into account:
- Monthly repayment (this will be deducted from your available monthly allowance)
- The (outstanding) amount of your study debt
- The total term of your debt
Concealing your student debt is not smart because in the contract with the Spanish bank you take out, you can potentially expect penalties or changes to your mortgage.
